AFTER another week of excessive summer heat, the Casterton District Association executive decided to cancel all senior and junior cricket last Saturday.
Cricket Victoria has a comprehensive set of extreme heart guidelines, which are designed to look after the health and welfare of players and umpires.
On code red days, cricket is cancelled automatically. Once the forecast temperature reaches the 40s, the clubs are consulted and they decide whether cricket takes place. All clubs are represented on the association executive.
This is the first time since Black Saturday in 2009 that heat has caused a complete cancellation. Both senior and junior games become one-day games this Saturday.
The senior points table is: Edenhope 150, Pigeon Ponds 146, Casterton 142, Wando Vale 109, Merino 98 and Dergholm 49. The composition of the four seems set, with only Merino having an outside chance of replacing Wando Vale in fourth place.
