HEYWOOD harness trainer Kevin Brough and his team have enjoyed a wonderful week in the winner’s circle.
The week started last Thursday afternoon at Maryborough when his charges earned the popular trainer a winning double at the end of the program.
The first win came in the C5 to C7 race when his in-form gelding Weallwantano racked up another win after coming off a great win at Globe Derby in late January.
This gelding, by It Is I, beat a handy field to win by nearly three metres from Freemason and Narra Operative, setting a mile rate of 1.58:5 and coming home in 58.1 for the win.
The stable followed up in the C0 class with Peters Ace, who was able to lead the field to the wining post by nine metres from Mr Coggins and Big Boy Blue ran the minor placing.
The winner ran a time of 1.57.3 with the last half ran in 58.0 even easing up at the post.
Both runners were driven by Mathew Craven, who is starting to have a great winning strike rate with the stable.
The stable then tackled the heats of the Derby with their underrated 3-Y-0 Paua Fella, who was able to run second in the second heat which moved him into the final to be run at Melton tonight.
