THERE was an almost autumnal feel to the day as students, staff and supporters gathered at the Casterton Swimming Pool last Friday for the annual Casterton Secondary College swimming carnival.
Qualifying heats got under way under cool overcast skies, which made for perfect swimming conditions, and the students soon showed their commitment with almost everyone entering into the spirit of the day in an effort not only to progress into the finals, but also to score vital house points.
As the temperature in the swimming heated up, so did the temperature outside the pool and by mid-morning we were treated to a typical hot Casterton summers’ day but with plenty of shade, lashings of sun-screen and more than a fair share of exotic headwear, everyone stayed ‘cool’ and cheered the competitors home.
Some excellent performances during qualifying saw Glenelg lead the points table from Muntham then Wannon; could an upset be on the cards for the first time in years?
