THE annual Melbourne Country Week carnival begins on Monday with the Kings Cars Hamilton and District Cricket Association team competing in Division Two and looking to win their section and advance to the top grade.
The side will play Warrnambool at Geelong on Monday to start the week with a tough encounter.
The HDCA has not defeated Warrnambool in the carnival for many years and they come into this match as underdogs, but a victory on Monday will set up either team for a good week.
This season Hamish Bailey will return to the fold after missing the carnival last summer due to the birth of his first child and he takes over the reins as skipper from Michael Ross, who is unavailable this season.
Bailey will be looking to Brendan Huf to help supply the side with the majority of the runs as the pair are the leading batsmen in the completion this summer.
Both have passed the 450 run mark and are vying for the trophy for the highest run scorer for the season.
