THREE Hamilton junior basketballers have taken the early part of their playing careers to the next level.
Brooke Stone, Abbey Sutherland and Harry McGinley were members of Victoria Country teams that contested national competitions in Melbourne and Albury.
Sutherland and McGinley contested the Southern Cross Basketball Challenge, while Stone took part in the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup.
Both tournaments took centre stage in January.
The State Basketball Centre at Wantirna South played host to 400 elite young basketballers for the Southern Cross Basketball Challenge.
Sutherland was a member of the victorious Under 15 Girls team that claimed the Jenna O’Hea Perpetual Trophy.
The Victoria Country Goldminers defeated SA Metro Red, 55-44.
“It was a pretty good feeling,” she said of her team’s success.
“We just worked as a team, shared it around and had fun.”
Sutherland took the court as starting centre.
She described the opportunity to play against such high quality opposition as a “wonderful experience.”
