FIFTEEN years of helping Portland students learn the skills of good radio presentation came to an end on Wednesday as Jill Perkins signed off at 3RPC for the last time.
A long-time teacher at Portland Secondary College, Ms Perkins has trained more than 250 students in how to speak on the radio, run the board and prepare a program. She took over from Ron Stewart, who had begun the radio education project in 1988, long-time 3RPC broadcaster Jenny Brydson said.
“Many of the young presenters you trained went on to have their own shows,” board member Hilary Endacott told Ms Perkins during an on-air tribute. “You did a fabulous job and you are always welcome back at the station.”
“I might just do that, after a year off,” Ms Perkins replied.
