THERE was great excitement as a line of blue, yellow and green Casterton Primary grades three, four, five and six students made their way along Jackson and Clarke streets to the Casterton Swimming Pool for the annual house swimming sports last Friday.
The weather was almost perfect for swimming with the sun shielded by clouds on an almost breeze-less day. Students, parents, teachers and grandparents sat in their house teams on the hill in the shade overlooking the pool and each house was decorated in an array of balloons, streamers and house banners.
The events were designed so that every student could take part and win points towards their teams’ overall point score on the day. These events included 50m and 30m freestyle, 50m and 30m backstroke, 50m and 30m breaststroke, shallow ender events, butterfly and relays.
Everyone tried their best on the day and it was pleasing to hear the students cheer the swimmers so that everyone finished their race and gained points towards their teams.
We were also grateful for the help of Bob and Lesley Moroney from Hamilton, who help us each year as referees and coaches for our students. The students who go on to qualify for the Casterton District Sports, Greater Western and State swimming championships appreciate Bob and Lesley’s expert advice with their swimming styles and techniques for each event.
