PORTLAND Coasters women’s centre Julie Caldow was named her side’s Most Valuable Player at Sunday night’s Coasters’ awards night at the Gordon Hotel.
Caldow played a pivotal role in the women’s Coasters line up this year, with her experience and strength in the paint complementing the youthful energy of her teammates.
Surprisingly it was the Coasters veteran’s first club MVP, with it being the first time the club had initiated the award for the women’s side, though she has regularly been recognised at league level throughout her years representing the Coasters in the Green Triangle League.
Caldow said she had enjoyed her season with the Coasters this year and while she was still not sure whether or not she would line up again next summer she was hopeful bigger things lay ahead of both the Coasters and the CBL South West Women’s Conference as a whole.
“If a few more towns came into it (the conference) it might make a difference,” Caldow said.
