THE MS Europa cruise ship will berth at the smelter berth at the Port of Portland when it arrives in the harbour on March 8.
Originally it was planned the ship would dock at the S.L. Patterson berth (Lee Breakwater) when it berths for the day.
Port of Portland chief executive officer Jim Cooper said the change was made after a request from tourism operator Australian Outback Tours (AOT) for operational reasons. AOT will be bussing the passengers from the ship to different locations around the district.
A Glenelg Shire spokeswoman said passengers would still be transported by bus into Portland.
“The MS Europa will be docked in Portland for a short period (about eight hours) and the Alcoa berth allows for quick turnaround by buses, giving passengers the most time in Portland,” the spokeswoman said.
