EYE specialist services in Hamilton have been boosted with the recruitment of an ophthalmologist from Scotland.
Doctor Robert Harvey has joined the monthly roster of visiting specialists at Western District Health Services, Hamilton (WDHS), effectively doubling the hospital’s specialist eye service capacity.
Dr Harvey is based at Dr Vincent Lee’s South West Eye Surgery at St John of God Health Care Warrnambool which also provides services to Warrnambool, Portland and Colac.
Dr Lee will also continue visiting Hamilton each month for clinical consultations and surgery.
The recruitment means increased opportunity for people from Hamilton and surrounding regions to see a medical eye specialist locally.
Many elderly patients have been forced to travel to other regional centres due to the lack of sufficient clinics and staff to meet demand and it is hoped that Dr Harvey’s availability will address this problem.
