WINDMILL Ag has been described as “world leading” in its approach to workplace health and safety.
WorkSafe launched its Safer Towns campaign in Hamilton this week, kicking off with a visit to the farm machinery supplier.
The Hamilton business, which has branches around the state, has accident and injury rates 18.5 per cent below the state average, something occupational health and safety officer, Noel Jennings is pleased about.
Around five years ago the 50 year old business moved to its current Hamilton site, a $1.3 million building purpose built with safety in mind.
“Down the road we used to use forklifts for lifting up tractors and doing things that weren’t quite right, so we developed and built this place here with a great big five tonne overhead crane to create a lot better lifting facilities for the guys,” he said.
“That’s why we’re 18.5 per cent below the state average for the industry.”
It took two and a half years and much planning for the final design of the building to be settled.
