JUST what effect the welcome rain has, that fell all over the
district this week remains to be seen, but the teams that have to bat this week must be wary of the surface when play resumes in the Bendigo Bank HDCA A grade competition today.
All matches are at the halfway stage and every game has an outcome on the make-up of the final four and the finishing order.
At Melville Oval, the match is evenly poised after day one with St Mary’s to resume on 2-38 in chase of St Andrew’s 188, but the rain should have little effect on the wicket as the block is very hard and watering usually takes place each week on Wednesday/Thursday.
The teams are vying for bragging rights in their annual “Pope Shield Match”, which honours the memory of the late Dale Templeton and there is the added incentive of the winner claiming fourth place on the ladder.
