RECYCLING facilities at Melville Oval have been boosted with the installation of eight new bin corrals.
The bins, funded through a $9400 Keep Australia Beverage (KAB) Container Recycling Grant, will enable Southern Grampians Shire Council order to better recover recyclable materials, particularly beverage containers such as cans and bottles.
Cr Dennis Dawson this week welcomed the funding.
“The continued pressure of waste going into landfill is costly, and we need to take a long term view to reduce it as much as possible,” Cr Dawson said.
“There are large quantities of beverage containers discarded during events conducted at Melville Oval leading to increased pressures on our landfill and this infrastructure will assist our reduction effort and, hopefully encourage greater awareness of recycling.”
Keep Australia Beautiful chief executive officer, Peter Mclean said for many people, the barrier to recycling when they were out and about was simply due to a lack of recycling bins in public places.
