MAIL sent from Hamilton to other regional locations will now take at least two days to arrive.
Australia Post has scrapped their next day delivery after recording losses of more than $218 million in their domestic mail business last financial year.
Financial losses grew by 60 per cent in the financial year, while mail deliveries have dropped by a quarter since 2008.
An Australia Post spokesperson said an average 1.5 pieces of mail was delivered to each letterbox every day, down from two pieces six years ago.
The said the cutbacks had been coming for some time and were not a surprise to staff.
“We are transferring non-local mail processing to major regional or metropolitan processing facilities,” the spokeswoman said.
