THE Warrnambool Offshore and Light Game Fishing Club is gearing itself up for a massive week of fishing when its annual Shipwreck Coast Fishing Classic begins this weekend.
The event runs for 10 days, from March 1 to 10, and takes into account the full spectrum of recreational fishing, including marine, estuarine and fresh water fish, with more than $60,000 worth of prizes to be won.
While the event has been run for a number of years it has grown considerably in recent years, with WOLGFC’s Ben Pohlner hopeful some changes to this year’s event will take that growth to another level.
“We are hoping for 600 entries and then we try to get a bit of a crowd down there for the presentation day, so we’d be looking for close to 1,000 for the presentation,” Pohlner said.
“The fishing competition itself has been run for a lot of years, at a guess I would say at least 20 years.”
