FIREFIGHTERS are fuming about an illegal burn-off at Heathmere on Monday which had the potential to tie up valuable resources needed at another fire.
Two Country Fire Authority units from Heathmere, one from Heywood and a unit from the Department of Environment and Primary Industries attended the illegal burn-off at the Heathmere property, before being called to a larger fire at CapeBridgewater.
Heathmere CFA brigade captain Casey Taylor said a local farmer decided to light several fires on his property at Heathmere and although the fire was contained, the farmer did not have written permit from the CFA or a municipal fire prevention officer.
Mr Taylor said his brigade members believe that with the amount of money and time the CFA spends on education and information sessions, there was no excuse for people to light fires.
“Everytime we attend one of these fires, there is a feeling of frustration,” he said.
