IT’S unusual to go anywhere without running into someone from Hamilton.
And that was the case in at a Brisbane RSL earlier this month where dozens of former residents gathered together for a reunion.
Former Hamilton woman Helen Rae, surprised by the number of former Hamilton men and women living in the sunshine state, decided to organise the get together for more than 40 people.
Tim Groves helped Mrs Rae put together the event at the Greenbank RSL Club south of Brisbane after connecting through the I’ve Lived in Hamilton Facebook page set up by Merron Riddiford.
“It all started over a pie – everyone writing about King’s pies,” Mrs Rae (formerly Dunbar and Burger) said.
“Tim Groves put on Facebook that he hadn’t had a decent pie since moving to Queensland.
“I asked where he lived and it was about two minutes down the road from me.”
Both were shocked to realise, having corresponded through Facebook only that they and many other former Hamilton residents lived in such close proximity to each other.
