THE National Party will this week evaluate the five people who put their hand up to run for preselection for the Lowan state electorate.
Horsham Mayor David Grimble was the last potential preselection candidate to be identified, and joined four others named by the Wimmera Mail Times.
Business Horsham chair Andrea Cross, Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital chief executive, Emma Kealy, tipper driver and wool classer Russell McKenzie and Wimmera football development manager Bruce Petering also nominated for preselection.
A Nationals candidate evaluation committee will now decide if all those nominated will be officially endorsed as preselection candidates.
Those who are officially preselected will then face a vote by branch members and a party board.
Retiring Lowan MP Hugh Delahunty said the five potential candidates represented a “good mix of abilities and areas” and they “were all community-minded people”.
“I’ve rubbed shoulders with all of them through my work in the community,” he said.
