SOUTHERN Grampians Shire has written to Federal Regional Development Minister, Warren Truss, to urge that recreation, energy efficiency and environmental grants made by the previous government be honoured.
The council had voted at a meeting in December 2013 to write to relevant minsters to protest the new Commonwealth Government refusing to honour commitments made by its predecessor.
The shire received an allocation of $390,000 in round five grants from the Regional Australian Development Fund, which distributed $150 million to local governments in June 2013.
Local governments were given a month to come up with ‘shovel-ready’ ways to spend the money, and Southern Grampians Shire Council voted on its project plan at a July meeting.
The council settled on upgrades for the Lake Hamilton Skate Park and playground, improving energy efficiency at HILAC and subsidising new leachate ponds at the Hamilton Landfill.
