BATTERY Point is shaping up as a prime spot to view the cruise ship MS Europa in Portland tomorrow, but the area needs a decent clean-up, according to one Portland resident.
Cheryl Johnson, who has been a regular visitor to the area for the past 24 years when visiting her daughter who lives nearby, said on Wednesday the site needed a good tidy-up because it was littered with rubbish in the bushes and nearby scrub.
After Ms Johnson’s tip off to the Portland Observer, the Glenelg Shire was contacted, and the area was put on the list of areas to be cleaned up.
“It is not only for the cruise ship, it should be cleaned up because of the number of people who visit here, it is popular,” Ms Johnson said.
“The council (Glenelg Shire) has done a very good job cleaning up around town – like the highway near the Warrnambool turn-off and the roundabouts, they just need to do something up here because of the image it presents to visitors.”
