SOUTH Australian super sedan driver, Dave Gartner, stamped his authority on the final of the VSSA Formula E Go Karts Series at Western Speedway on Saturday night, claiming the win after starting out of eighth on the grid, courtesy of a several incidents during the heats.
The first heat saw both Peter Nicola and Gartner out of the race, with Nicola having to call it a night, due to a broken rack on his car.
Gartner then went on to win his second heat, and then for his third heat, hit the wall in lap two, again earning a “did not finish”
Fourteen drivers had turned out for the super sedan series event, with competitors contesting three events each, to gain points for the thirty lap final.
The first heat saw David McKenzie taking the win, ahead of Anthony Randall and Neil Witnish, while Witnish took the win in the second heat, ahead of McKenzie and Ben Falkhead.
The third heat was incident plagued, with Ian Page having motor problems which saw him out for the night, and Falkhead also called it a night after hitting the wall.
The fourth heat saw Shane Belk jumping to the lead at the start, and he was never headed, although young Kaleb Perret gave it all, in an attempt to gain the lead, and the rest of the field was showing some excellent passing skills, as they fought for position, with the eventual third spot being taken out by Ash Bergmeier, who put in a great outside run on Mick Nicola in the closing stages of the race.
The 30-lap final saw plenty of action, with several restarts and a multiple pile up which saw Witnish and McKenzie, the two front running cars, stuck together, while the rest of the field joined in the melee.
