NELSON tourism operators are looking to the Glenelg Shire Council to fund the Nelson Visitor Information Centre for seven days a week in the upcoming budget.
At the February council meeting, in the in camera section of the meeting, it was decided by the councillors for the VIC to be manned by a paid employee during peak periods.
The days and months decided were seven days a weeks in January; five days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday) from February to April; three days (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) in May; two days (Saturday and Sunday) from June to August and then reverting back to five days from September through to December.
On July 1 last year Parks Victoria removed its funding from the VIC after an 11-year shared funding agreement with the Glenelg Shire.
Since then the Nelson Information Centre Working Group has been lobbying with the Glenelg Shire to ensure the VIC is manned seven days a week to ensure tourists are catered for at all times.
