DOZENS of former pupils who attended South PortlandPrimary School (now PortlandSouthPrimary School) from 1964-1970 reunited last weekend.
People travelled from across Australia to attend the ‘Southies’ reunion to celebrate the start of school 50 years ago and share stories and memories of their primary schooling.
Organiser Cheryle Wilson said it was fantastic to get together and especially great that a number of people made a huge effort to get there, with one man travelling more than 3000km from Western Australia and a women travelling 1300km from Queensland.
“There was one guy who most of us hadn’t seen since grade three and he wasn’t originally able to come but could make it which was great,” Mrs Wilson said.
During the day members of the reunion group took in the sights of Portland on the Portland Cable Tram and did a tour of the school, with the official function held on Saturday night. Then on Sunday there was chance for the group to get together before heading off home.
