A NEW public dental service in Hamilton is helping ease the pressure on what was a previously limited system.
The Western District Health Service and South West Healthcare combined in January to create South West Dental Services, a new initiative to improve community access to local public dental services.
The new service is expected to revamp a system which formerly struggled with the recruitment and retention of dentists in the area.
South West Health chief executive, John Krygger is hopeful the new model will make life easier for those inconvenienced by the previous system.
“In the past it’s been difficult to recruit and retain dentists in the region, resulting in the general public being forced to travel excessive distances to access public dental services” he said.
