LOCAL abalone, gummy shark and strawberries formed the cornerstone of Sunday’s Seafood by the Seashore event in Portland.
Eighty people attended the event which was part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and organised by the Committee for Portland.
Committee president Ian Bail said celebrity chef Paul Mercurio made an entertaining presentation during the day showing how to prepare abalone, mingling with the crowd and providing some details of his life in the film and entertainment industries.
TS Henty Naval Cadets served food to the 80 people during the afternoon.
Mr Bail said the event would be expanded next year to cater for 100 people and would probably focus on a different theme but still promoting fresh and local produce from the Portland area.
