THE Rotary Club of Casterton has joined two Portland-based Rotary clubs and United Way Glenelg with an historic fundraising evening.
To mark Rotary Literacy Month, the Rotary Clubs of Portland, Portland Bay and Casterton will join forces to fundraise together for the first time ever to help expand the Imagination Library initiative.
Imagination Library, a partnership between UWG and Portland Aluminium, was launched to great acclaim last year and proved an immediate hit with local families. Currently 300 children from across the shire have signed up to receive a free book delivered to their mailbox each month from birth until they reach five.
However, the overwhelming response to the program has meant that a freeze has been placed on processing new applications until further funding is sourced.
United Way Glenelg executive officer Nicole Reefman said the knowledge and skills that local Rotarians possess would be invaluable in ensuring more children in the community could access the program.
