MONIVAE College Year 12 student Duncan Cameron has broken a 41-year athletics record at the Monivae College Athletics Carnival.
The 100m record of 11.40 seconds was held by Old Collegian and former Collingwood footballer Bill Picken.
Duncan who is a boarder at Monivae from Goroke, set a new mark of 11.09 seconds.
Monivae Sports Coordinator, Scott Kruger, said that it was a great day for athletics and he was not surprised that Duncan was able to break the record.
“The conditions were great all day and Duncan has been doing a lot of work on his running,” he said.
“So it is credit to Duncan for all his hard work that he is able to get what was one of our longest standing athletics records.
The longest record we have now is actually Bill Picken’s 200m record, which Duncan came close to but wasn’t able to break.”
