THE Portland Tigers A grade netball side has returned from Port Fairy enriched by the Athlete’s Foot Cup experience during the round-robin preseason tournament last Saturday.
Despite the relocation of the football to South Warrnambool, netball went ahead in Port Fairy to honour the memory of the late former Port Fairy netballer Rebekah Moroney, who sadly passed away in January.
Constant downpours of rain didn’t deter a high standard of competition or the small but loyal crowd from attending the event.
The cup served as an ideal platform for Portland to trial younger players against the high standard of competition.
Portland went down in all four of its matches by narrow margins, losing to Camperdown, Port Fairy, Warrnambool, and eventual tournament winners North Warrnambool during the day.
