TRIBUTES have been made to former long-serving Heywood shire councillor Betty (Elizabeth) Gee.
Mrs Gee died on Monday, aged 77, at Heywood after a long battle with cancer.
She had a lengthy and distinguished service as a councillor from 1981 to 1995.
She was elected to the Shire of Portland from 1981 to 1987, and served as shire president in 1985-86 before it became known as the Shire of Heywood from 1987 to 1995.
Glenelg Shire councillor Robert Halliday, who was Town of Portland mayor in 1985, on Wednesday described Mrs Gee as a person of great integrity.
“It didn’t matter who you were, she had a great ability to be able to be at ease and mix with people from all walks of life … she will definitely be a loss to the community,” he said.
