HAMILTON Airport will get a $2.4 million runway and lighting upgrade following an extra $1.4m funding announcement by Victoria’s Aviation Minister on Friday.
Gordon Rich-Phillips flew into Hamilton to make the announcement with Lowan MP Hugh Delahunty and Southern Grampians Shire Mayor Albert Calvano.
Mr Rich-Phillips also met with Sharp Airlines managing director Malcolm Sharp and the company’s trainee pilots.
The funding will see construction of a 300 metre extension of the main sealed runway and a new hardened turnaround at its end.
There will also be new runway lighting and associated cabling for around the apron and taxiways.
“The Victorian Government is the only state government with an aviation portfolio, and that is because we believe it’s vital to support regional air services and emergency services,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
