FUNAKOSHI Karate International Australia (FKIA) is undertaking a karate tour of Singapore, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, France and Hong Kong from 5th of April to 26th of April.
Forty-one local karate students from Warrnambool, Terang, Camperdown and Hamilton, and ten support crew, will expand their karate knowledge and experience when they train with and compete against karate organisations in the above countries.
Seven of the touring party are from the Hamilton Funakoshi Karate Club of these four will be training and competing they are Oscar O’Brien, Jakob Vandermost, TJ Greenwood and Rob Lambert.
In Hong Kong they will experience training under instruction of the Chinese coach, Sensei Boon Lee.
In Germany they get will endure some intense defence techniques using an Israeli defence system called Krav Maga from the instructor of the German Special Forces.
These sessions will include throws, submission holds, ground-fighting and weapon removal techniques.
Through interaction with other Funakoshi Karate Members and under instruction from Sensei Marius Bower they will gain an enhanced knowledge of their own style.
