PORTLAND Colts made it five wins in a row in the Portland and District Cricket Association B grade competition on Saturday when they completely outclassed Tyrendarra at Alexandra Park in the B grade grand final.
Colts had gone through the season with just the one loss for the season, back in round two to South Portland, but off the back of a dominant performance in their semi final went into the grand final as red hot favourites against Tyrendarra.
Tyrendarra also took some strong form into the game following a strong showing in their semi final last weekend, however with semi final hero Keith Boots called up to A grade for the grand final the batting depth was tested on the day.
On a slow, lush outfield Tyrendarra found it hard to get the ball away early in the innings and it was not long before Colts had made the first breakthrough, with Association leading wicket taker Matheau Banks ripping through both David Aitken (2) and Aaron Welfare (0) to have Tyrendarra behind the eight ball from the beginning at 2-10.
Banks went on to remove key top-order batsmen Jason Pitt for 10 and Carl Huff for four to have the Darras at 4-21, and with Marcus Bunney joining the party shortly after with a couple of cheap wickets in the middle order things did not look bright for the Darras.
