AFL legend Kevin Sheedy described it as the marriage between a football club and a town.
The buzz at the Dartmoor Football Club was unmistakeable as the cherished connection between the GWS Giants and the Dartmoor community was officially recognised last Friday night.
The remarkable opening two seasons of former local and current GWS player Jeremy Cameron formed the catalyst behind the historic decision to appropriate the Giants name, logo and guernsey for the upcoming South West District Football Netball League 2014 season.
They will now be officially recognised as the Dartmoor Giants in an exciting move that intimately joins the two clubs despite a geographical separation of 1,228 kilometres.
Orange and grey streamers cascaded from the clubroom walls as an excited crowd of onlookers watched on while Sheedy addressed the playing group before signing autographs and posing for photographs, before the official presentation got underway.
Sheedy was impressed by the Dartmoor community’s willingness to embrace the GWS Giants.
“Have a look at the energy in the room right now” Sheedy said as he absorbed the electric atmosphere within the clubrooms.
