A PORTLAND man was yesterday remanded in custody after being accused of stealing a shotgun and using it in an armed robbery.
Aaron Ellis, 26, appeared in the Portland Magistrates’ Court yesterday on charges including armed robbery, aggravated burglary, firearm offences, breaches of intervention orders, traffic offences, with further charges pending. He made no bail application.
Four shotguns and ammunition were stolen last week from a gun safe at a property on School Rd, Tyrendarra, which Ellis is accused of stealing. Police allege he hid three of the guns but took the other shotgun with him when he walked from the property towards Portland before hitching a ride to Narrawong.
Police yesterday said they believed it was Ellis involved in the gun thefts and during the weekend had discussion through his de facto partner for him to surrender himself, which he didn’t do.
On Monday afternoon police received a report of an armed robbery.
