THE newly-merged Casterton-Sandford Football-Netball Club will have its first serious hit-out in Western Border football for 2014 when it plays in the one-day Elastoplast Cup competition at McLaughlin Park in Millicent this Saturday.
Casterton-Sandford will play the second match against West Gambier starting at 11.05 am and its next match will be game six against North Gambier at 2.25pm.
The final will be played at 4.05pm. Interestingly, Naracoorte will play in the seven-team competition and will give keen supporters an indication of just how strong the district league really is.
Perhaps, it could be an insight for the competition to assess the merits of asking the Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara District Football League or some of its teams to join the WBFL.
A strong performance could enhance the move.
The Village Cats will go into the competition with plenty of game time under their belts following practice matches against Heywood, Penola, Harrow-Balmoral and Kybybolite and with a number of its gun recruits ready to show their wares against the more-fancied Mt Gambier teams.
