THE Portland Little Athletics Club will send a nine-person team to this weekend’s Victorian State Titles in Melbourne, with the team’s elder statesman, Bailey Knight, confident of a strong showing from the small regional club.
Knight, who will compete in the under-15 boys javelin and shot put himself, said this year’s team was definitely larger than the one that qualified for State level last year, which he hopes will translate into even more athletes earning a chance to go to Nationals.
“It does seem pretty big, it is definitely bigger than last year, and the majority of the team are younger kids, which is pretty cool,” Knight said.
“I actually think we do have a good chance of having some success this weekend.
“We had a couple get through to the next level last year so hopefully with a bigger crew we have an even better chance of getting more kids through.
“We haven’t really spoken about how well we would like to go as a team, but I’d like it if some of us got some placings.
