FISHERMEN with boat trailers will have to pay $10 daily or an annual fee of $110 to park at Portland’s foreshore as early as July 1 this year.
Parking is currently free at the foreshore, and will remain so for cars.
The Glenelg Shire Council approved the fees on Tuesday night with an amendment allowing the grassed areas adjacent to the Portland Angling Club to be set aside to allow overflow parking only.
It followed four submissions to the fee proposal from the Portland Sport Game and Fishing Club, the Portland Yacht Club, Barry Tanner who co-hosts a popular fishing program on Geelong community radio station 94.7 The Pulse, and an individual.
The council aims to implement the parking fees from July 1, pending the arrival and installation of parking ticket machines.
