PORTLAND Secondary College student Jacinta Rose has joined Active Health Portland as the first Indigenous school-based apprentice.
The Year 12 student sought out the opportunity after setting her sights on a career as a nurse.
“I had heard at school that there might be an opportunity at Active Health Portland so I went in and asked,” Jacinta said.
“Everyone is good to work with and they are always happy to teach me things.”
The 17-year-old works at Active Health Portland every Thursday, mainly taking on reception duties.
So far the experience has inspired Jacinta to further consider a career in health.
“I’m looking at options but at this stage I hope to do nursing,” Jacinta said.
