ABOUT 130 people converged on Heywood on Sunday to celebrate their shared heritage, John Devlin, and his arrival in Australia.
The descendants of John and Mary Devlin discovered each other when Helen Chandler, Bronwyn Smith and Patricia Poropat were researching their family history online.
The reunion was organised to bring the family together, but also allowed Mrs Chandler to gather material to add to her book of family history.
While the activities centred in Heywood, where Mr and Mrs Devlin settled, the relatives paid a visit to Portland to unveil a new plaque on the Immigrants Wall, commemorating Mr and Mrs Devlin’s separate arrival in Portland from Ireland in 1855 and their subsequent marriage.
