SMOKING is now banned at children’s playgrounds, skate parks and sporting facilities across the Southern Grampians Shire.
The statewide bans, which came into force on Tuesday, further reduce the number of places where smoking is permitted in public areas.
Smoking will be banned within a 10 metre radius of outdoor children’s playground equipment and skate parks that are open to the public.
Victoria’s is the first state to introduce bans at skate parks.
Bans also apply to the outdoor areas of all public swimming pools and at sporting venues during under 18s sporting events.
Signs will be erected at 29 sporting venues in Greater Hamilton, including Hamilton Indoor Leisure and Aquatic Centre (HILAC), Melville Oval, Pedrina Park and at all children’s playgrounds.
