THERE will be no excuses when the Hamilton Kangaroos open their 2014 Hampden Football Netball League season campaign on Saturday against Cobden.
That was the message of new senior playing coach Jarrod Holt when he spoke to the Hamilton Spectator at last week’s league season launch in Warrnambool.
“I’m pretty happy with the state the side’s in,” Holt said.
“I guess through all three grades, from my point of view, there’s always going to be other commitments and things with guys that get in the way during pre-season.
“But I think overall, as a whole, we’ve had plenty of guys at training.
“The guys have had a good attitude and really stuck to the task.
“The majority of the guys have done the work and there’s no excuse for us not being ready to go.”
The Kangaroos will hit the ground running after putting in the hard yards during the summer months.
“It’s also nine other clubs’ plan as well,” Holt said.
“I think we’ve shaped up pretty well … our pre-season has been really good.
“I’m in a position where I don’t need to play guys that haven’t done the work and aren’t ready.
“As I said, we’ve got plenty of players that have done the work.
“So they will get priority.”
