HAMILTON avoided an accident with the “potential for serious injuries or possibly even a fatality” on Monday afternoon after the brakes on a semi-trailer failed while driving towards the CBD on Pope Street.
Sergeant in Charge of the Hamilton Highway Patrol, Scott Williams said the truck driver avoided directly hitting other cars or running through the Lonsdale-Thompson St roundabout.
The truck drove into a fence around Melville Oval across from the Shell petrol station, managing to avoid impact with parked cars, pedestrians and a high voltage power box.
The incident occurred at 4pm and police attended the scene until 6.15 pm, along with Ambulance Victoria, CFA, SES, Southern Grampians Shire and electrical contractors.
