“WE won’t settle for that.”
Those were the words of new senior playing coach Jarrod Holt after the Hamilton Kangaroos endured an 18.9 (117) to 8.15 (63) defeat in Saturday’s 2014 season opener against Cobden.
“We realise that’s not good enough and I spoke to the players on the ground afterwards,” Holt told the Hamilton Spectator in his post match interview.
“They’ve assured me that we want more than that, we want better than that.
“So that’s our challenge isn’t it? … keep moving on.”
What made the final margin of 54 points even harder to comprehend was that the Kangaroos trailed by just 10 points at half time.
The visitors were well and truly in the contest.
They knew it and so too did the Bombers.
“My message to the boys at halt time was that we had put ourselves in a position to win the game, I thought,” Holt said.
“We’ve had a good pre-season and I tried to instil confidence in the boys that we could run it out.
“I wouldn’t question that we’re not fit enough.
“Cobden just used the footy a lot better.
