The Hamilton CBD will lose another long standing business with the closing of ‘Lardner Bros’ in Thompson St
Originating in Ararat, Lardner Bros has been in business for more than 100 years, specialising in security, cycling and as locksmiths.
Having owned both stores in Ararat and Hamilton for the past 15 years, Geoff and Donna Dunmore have finally decided to call time on the Hamilton business for multiple reasons.
“It’s the accumulation of a number of things, the lease is running out and my manager who’s been in Hamilton for 10 years is also wanting to move on,” Mr Dunmore said from his Aararat store.
“There’s been a bit of a downturn, but whilst the business is still reasonably viable, I don’t want to go back to having to train someone from scratch again; when we first started 10 years ago I did it but now I don’t have the time.”
Mr Dunmore said that Hamilton’s sky high rent prices were another factor behind the store’s closure, something which isn’t unfamiliar to Hamilton business owners.
