TYRENDARRA got on the board for the 2014 South West District Football League season on Saturday, outlasting an impressive Branxholme-Wallacedale at Tyrendarra to win by 46 points.
The Darras and Saints went into the match each chasing their first win of the season and while the Saints walked away empty handed they certainly asked some big questions of the home side at times.
The Saints got the jump on Tyrendarra in the opening quarter, moving the ball quickly in a good display of attacking football that should have their supporters feeling very encouraged.
By the first break the visiting team held a two-goal lead, having kept Tyrendarra goalless throughout the quarter.
While the Saints have clearly made some improvements of the past two seasons the big flaw still remaining in their game is the ability to maintain the ascendency across a game and the Darras exploited this in the second quarter to reclaim the lead.
Kaleb Sherwell presented well up forward for Tyrendarra and with Tim Chester, Tye O’Connell and Tim Holland all seeing plenty of the ball through the middle and around half forward Tyrendarra piled on six goals for the quarter to claim the lead, going into the half time break ahead by 14 points.
