SOUTHERN Grampians Shire Councillor, veterinarian and farmer, Katrina Rainsford will contest Lowan as an independent candidate at the November state election.
“I’ve been lobbied by a number of people to run and after a discussion with my family I’ve decided to make the announcement,” she said.
“It’s clear the local area wouldn’t get a candidate otherwise, and Lowan shouldn’t be taken for granted by the parties.”
Cr Rainsford has run as a Liberal candidate for Lowan in 2006 and an independent candidate for Wannon in the 2010 federal election after a disagreement with the party over her preselection bid.
As a Liberal candidate, Cr Rainsford secured 22.4 per cent of the primary vote in 2006, equal to another Southern Grampians Councillor, Paul Battista, who ran for the Labor Party.
