PORTLAND fought back to salvage a thrilling draw against Port Fairy at Port Fairy in round two of the Hampden Netball League on Saturday.
The Tigers went into the match full of confidence after a strong showing in round one but were quickly snapped back to reality when the Seagulls dominated the opening five minutes.
The home side caught the Tigers off guard in the opening minutes, with shooters Emily Forrest and Carly Watson moving and converting beautifully in the goal circle to see the Seagulls break away to a six-goal lead before Portland was able to score.
It was far from an ideal start for Portland, but the Tigers held their nerve and regrouped to stay with Port Fairy for the remainder of the term, trailing seven to 12 at the first break.
The game levelled out from there, with Portland’s defensive half playing strongly and allowing the visitors to slowly make inroads into the Port Fairy lead.
