ANZAC Day is a little over a week away and the Portland RSL Sub Branch are calling for volunteers to help prepare for the momentous annual event.
Portland RSL Sub Branch secretary Heather Clark said they require volunteers to help make the wreaths as part of the ANZAC displays.
The wreaths will be made at the Civic Centre supper room next Thursday at 8.30am and volunteers are asked to assist the Floral Art Club, the Garden Club and Neighbourhood House.
New to the role of secretary, Ms Clark said she took on the role in February as a way of stepping into her ex-serviceman father’s shoes and continuing his ongoing work with the RSL.
“I’ve been involved (with the RSL) for around seven to eight years, and I’ve just slowly been getting more and more involved,” Ms Clark said.
Ms Clark’s father Ivan Foley worked as a general hand in the Australian Air force in 1945.
