HAMILTON’S Shanai Smith is the first recipient of the Southern Grampians Youth Award for her dedication to volunteering.
Ms Smith has been volunteering at several different organisations for a few years and said she was doing it to give back to the community.
“Last year I was (volunteering) at Vinnies and the year before that I was (volunteering) up at Roscoe (Avenue Children’s Centre),” she said.
Volunteering at Vinnies Hamilton for Ms Smith involved packaging and sorting out clothes.
“It was a great experience and I made new friends,” she said.
She also encourages her friends to volunteer as she said it was a lot of fun.
Ms Smith attended Baimbridge College and is now attending South West Tafe three days a week while completing her Certificate 1 in Work Education.
