WHILE many 22-year-olds dream of making a difference in the world and embracing true selflessness, not many can say they had the actual courage to truly embark upon those dreams.
But Portland’s Sharna Fennell is not one to let fear bring her dreams to a halt.
The passionate child care worker has one thing on her mind at the moment, spending five weeks volunteering her time and resources in Kenya this August.
Dreaming about the prospect of travel and helping people in need has long been on her mind, but it was a post on Facebook two years ago that added fuel to the fire and finally made the dream a possible reality.
“A girl I went to school with had posted a status on Facebook about something similar that she had done, and at the time I was just so jealous, but I kept just thinking I’ll never be able to afford it,” Sharna said.
“And then one day I saw a photo on the internet, and I bought flights!”
